With the lifting of GRAP III restrictions, BS3 petrol and BS4 diesel four-wheelers can now run in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddh Nagar.
Two consecutive days of rainfall brought some respite for the residents of Delhi from air pollution and helped lower AQI in the city. Following the improvement in air quality in Delhi, the Centre on Tuesday revoked GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan) Stage III restrictions in the entire NCR with immediate effect. This means that BS3 petrol and BS4 diesel cars can now run in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddh Nagar.
Delhi’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 312 yesterday as per the AQI Bulletin provided by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
Keeping in mind the improvement in air quality, the sub-committee for operationalization of actions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in NCR & adjoining areas decided to roll back Stage III of revised GRAP.
"Actions under Stage I and Stage II of GRAP shall however remain invoked and be implemented, intensified, monitored and reviewed by all agencies concerned in NCR to ensure that the AQI levels do not slip further to ‘Severe’ category," said CAQM in a press release. The AQI of 312 is about 83 points lower than the threshold for invoking the GRAP Stage III actions (AQI 401-450). However, CAQM says that there is a likelihood of the overall AQI of Delhi remaining in ‘Very Poor’ category (AQI 301-400) in the coming days for which forecast is available.
